Work In Progress

Forgive the messy and non-cohesive state of the blog right now. After a nine month leave of absence I decided some housekeeping was necessary and I decided to take on the task myself rather than hirer a designer. It's a slow process, but it'll get done eventually and will look ah-mah-zing.

Lil Mootz On His Swing Set and Other Stuff

I have some Friday randomness for everyone.

First and foremost (because it is the most exciting!), Stonewall and I are leaving for Florida tomorrow! Two full weeks of warm weather, no work just play, and Mickey Mouse. We are spending the first week in Sarasota and the second week at Walt Disney World. Our first vacation together in over a year! I'll update as often as I can if for no other reason than to make everyone pea green with envy because we're lounging by the pool :)

Second...remember that giveaway I was having a week ago? Yeah, well, I didn't. It just dawned on me this morning that I never picked a winner. After an intense judging process of pulling a name out of a hat the winner is......

*drum roll, please*

Lin from Linny's Vault!! Congrats, Lin! I'll email you for your information.

And finally...

In case I don't get a chance to write another post anytime soon I thought I'd leave you with some adorable photos of Lil Mootz.

The other day I came home from work and as I was about to walk through the front door I heard the most beautiful laugh coming from the backyard. I walked around the house to see the happiest little baby boy giggling like crazy as his daddy pushed him on the swing.

What Would Brian Boitano Do?

The hubs: And so the question is: What would Brian Boitano do?

Me: Who is Brian Boitano?

Stonewall: A male figure skater.

Me: How is it you know the name of a male figure skater and I don't?

Stonewall: I think we can just skip this conversation and move right on to the sex, so I can prove my sexuality.

Me: Mmmm-hm.

My Nashiness Magazine Disorder

The husband thinks I have some John Nash tendencies. In fact, he told me last night it's just getting down right weird and OCD.

Do you remember the scene in A Beautiful Mind where there are magazine pages plastered all over the wall?

Okay, well, it's not that bad.

Whenever I'm looking through a magazine and I see something I want to buy or look up on the Internet or an idea that I would like to use in our house, I tear the page out. Granted, about 2/3 of the pages never get a second glance and end up in random piles around our house. HOWEVER, the rest are used as I intended to use them.

So Stonewall is freaked out by my piles of torn out magazine pages laying around our house. I'll admit, they are everywhere. The kitchen, living room, dining room, bathroom, our bedroom. I think the only room that doesn't have a pile is Lil Mootz's room.

I've tried to tell him that there is a purpose behind my madness. That the purpose does NOT include trying to figure out patterns or when some foreign country is going to attack us. Rather, the purpose is to get my money's worth from these magazines.

A normal magazine costs anywhere from $3.99 to $6.99 these days. I could buy a paperback with that money or a really nice shirt on sale. I don't just read magazines because I'm bored. I read them so I can get ideas. I can't even remember what I wore yesterday, so how am I supposed to remember where that really cool kitchen gadget was from in Real Simple or all those under $100 nifty repairs for your home in This Old House or how Parent says I'm supposed to keep Lil Mootz from throwing temper tantrums when he's a toddler?

I suppose I could just keep the magazine. Actually, that is what I used to do. I used to dog-ear the pages and keep the magazine. Have you ever seen two years worth of magazines and then tried going through them because you know you marked a page that had a really pretty dress that you knew would be just perfect for a wedding some day?

Not fun.

So I started ripping out the pages that I wanted and then tossing the rest of the magazine. Actually, I think it's a pretty brilliant idea.

I think John Nash would agree.

Freedom Of The Press?

Is anyone else concerned that the White House, the term for the top officials in our government, are "waging a war" on a news media outlet, Fox News?

Does it bother anyone else that they are asking other media outlets to, basically, black ball Fox News?

Let's go back a few years to, let's say, the late 1700s. Who here knows our country's history? What happened in the late 1700s?

The Bill of Right happened.

And what are the Bill of Rights? (Obama advisers, any takers here?)

The first ten Amendments of the United States Constitution.

And what does the first amendment say? (Rahm Emanuel, surely you know this one?)

"Congress shall make no law...abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press..."

Now I realize that no laws have been created that prohibit Fox News from running the stories they wish to run.

However, publicly announcing that Fox News is "not a news organization" (as reported here) and calling on other news networks to not treat Fox as if it were one, is walking that line between simply disagreeing with Fox News and wanting (and attempting) to shut them up for good.

I do believe I shall sleep better at night knowing that the President of the United States and his top advisers find our first amendment inconvenient.

(army)Wife - 1, Stonewall - 0

I play dirty. I'm a wife, so I have to or else the husband would think he rules the roost.

Take the other night, for instance. Stonewall wanted to hang out with our brother-in-law after we had dinner with him and Danielle (Stonewall's sister). I wasn't too thrilled with idea since it was already late. Stonewall promised he would be home by 11:00, so I said okay.

I get home, put Lil Mootz to bed, update the blog, and wait for Stonewall to role in.

At 11:00, my phone rings and its Stonewall letting me know he won't be home by 11:00. I was none to happy with this. I told Stonewall I was upset with him because he said he would be home by now. At this point he tries to apologize and make up with me by (trying) to be funny, but I'm mad at him, so he gets nowhere.

After we hang up, I go to bed...naked.

When Stonewall crawls into bed an hour later he tries to cuddle up with me. When he realizes I'm naked he tries to...well, you know. I tell him to knock it off and move onto his side of the bed. After another attempt at the dirty Stonewall finally realizes I'm serious and curls up on his side.

The next morning Stonewall says, "Babe, did you go to bed naked on purpose last night?"

And I say (with as much sarcasm as possible), "No, I accidentally forgot to put on PJs last night. Of course, I went to bed naked on purpose!"

He says, "I tried to get it on with you last night!"

Me, "Yeah, well, naked wife was for 11:00 Stonewall."

A Celebration of the Haunts: Ghosts of Gettysburg

Welcome (finally...sorry for the delay) to my "Hauntingly Magical Celebration" hosted by Vanessa at A Fanciful Twist!

Before we go any further though, I must warn you: If you're here for the "Magical" part of this Halloween party, you're going to be disappointed. I'm afraid there is nothing magical here today.

HOWEVER...

If you're here for the "Hauntingly" part of this shindig, you've come to the right place.

Halloween or All Hallow's Eve is supposedly a day when the veil between our world and the spirit is at its thinnest allowing spirits or ghosts to pass between the two.  So, when it comes to Halloween there's nothing like a good ghost story. Except perhaps a ghost story that is rooted in history and has the proof in the pictures. Well...if you're a believer.

In true Stonewall family fashion, I'm devoting this "Hauntingly Magical Celebration" to the ghosts of Gettysburg. I convinced the husband to take me to Gettysburg this past week and share with me his vast knowledge of all things Gettysburg, most especially the ghost stories. (With a BA in History and as a reenactor Stonewall is a huge Civil War buff, full of all sorts of stories and tidbits. He could give every tour guide at Gettysburg a run for their money.)  So pull up your campfires and prepare yourselves for ghosts that don't always wait for Halloween to come out into our world.

*Disclaimer: Unfortunately, none of the pictures I took of our trip yielded any haunts. (At least, that I can see. If you notice something I didn't, please point it out!) However, I'll share with you the pictures I took, tell you the stories Stonewall told me, and I'll point you in the direction of some sites that do offer some haunted photos. You can also search You Tube for some visitors' videos of spooky sightings.*

*And on more thing - If you're not familiar with the battle of Gettysburg and you'd like to get more information, please visit The Gettysburg National Military Park Virtual Tour website for a great overview of the battle, as well as detailed information of specific sites.*

The Battle of Gettysburg was the bloodiest battle of the Civil War.  Over 50,000 soldiers were killed, wounded, captured, or missing.  Their spirits are everywhere in Gettysburg.  There can be no doubt (for those of us who believe) that most of the orbs and ghostly images that people capture on film are the thousands of soldiers that fought at Gettysburg.  However, not all of the ghosts of Gettysburg are soldiers.

Stonewall's first story of the day takes place at Devil's Den.

When he was still in college, Stonewall made a trip to Gettysburg with his friend, Andy and his college girlfriend's younger brother, John.  John's mom told Stonewall that John was "special" and that he had a "gift" - meaning that he had an eye for the paranormal.  Stonewall figured that if this was true, John would "see" plenty at Gettysburg.

After their tour of Gettysburg, Stonewall asked John if he thought he had seen any ghosts.

"Yeah. I think so," replied John.

"Where at?" asked Stonewall.

John said, "At Devil's Den."

"What did you see?" asked Stonewall expecting to hear that John saw Union or Confederate soldiers as this general  area is nicknamed "The Slaughter Pen" and "Death Valley" because of the large number of casualties that occurred here.

"I saw a little girl on the rocks.  She was on the edge and then she went off the edge.  I looked over the edge for her, but she was gone and there wasn't enough time for her to run away."

Where John saw the little girl.

"What was she wearing?" asked Stonewall.

"A white dress."

"Was she wearing anything else?" asked Stonewall because this was starting to sound familiar.

"She was wearing a yellow sash on her dress."

Stonewall's mouth dropped in disbelief.  While doing research for one of his many Gettysburg/Civil War reports for high school and college Stonewall came across a report about a little girl in a white dress with a yellow sash.  This little girl was playing on the rocks at Devil's Den when she fell off the edge and was killed.  There have been a few sightings of her ghostly image reported over the years.

It is also at Devil's Den that Stonewall saw his own ghostly image.  During one of his many visits to Gettysburg Stonewall saw a figure in grey standing in the middle of all the rocks.  However, when he turned around to look again the figure was gone.

For more hauntings of Devil's Den you can visit here, here, and here

Next, Stonewall drove us over to Spangler's Spring.

A most popular ghost legend of Spangler's Spring is about "The Woman in White."  "The Woman in White" is said to be a woman who committed suicide after she was spurned by her fiance.  During the nights she can be seen coming from the rocks (which are behind me in this picture) and descending onto the grounds surrounding the spring where she seems to wander around looking for something.

A paranormal investigator captured this photo (little more than halfway down the page) of what she believes could be the "Woman in White" (far left on the outer bank).

To see some photos of ghostly activity at Spangler's Spring visit here, here and here for a video.

Gettysburg College was next on our tour.

The first ghostly story at Gettysburg College is about "The Boy in Blue."  "The Boy in Blue" supposedly haunts a woman's dormitory.  The story says that after the battle of Gettysburg in the late 1800's the Gettysburg orphanage was run by a nasty old lady.  One of the orphans ran away and two girls in the dorm hid the boy in their room.  When their head mistress wanted to search their room (because no boys were allowed), they hid the boy outside on their window ledge...in the middle of winter!  The head mistress took the girls downstairs to question their suspicious activity.  When the girls returned to their room the boy was gone.  Today those who stay in the room have reported hearing scratching at their window and seeing a little boys face, blue with cold peering in at them outside the window.

This is a picture in which the photographer thinks could be "The Boy in Blue."

At the time of the Gettysburg Battle, Gettysburg College was used as a makeshift hospital to treat the wounded.  Stories tell of people who have ridden on the elevator down to the basement (either on purpose or because the elevator mysteriously bypasses their chosen floor) and when the doors open they see wounded soldiers, a doctor preparing for an amputation, and nurses who stare at the witnesses with haunted eyes.

To see a Gettysburg College ghost visit here.

Finally, Stonewall took me to the house of Jennie Wade, the only civilian to be killed during the Battle of Gettysburg.

Jennie Wade temporarily lived here with some of her family members during the Battle of Gettysburg.  Jennie and her mother spent the first and second days of the battle distributing bread and water to the soldiers.  On the third day they were preparing the dough for more bread in the early morning hours when a musket ball tore through two doors and hit Jennie Wade in the back and killing her.

The hole made by the musket ball that killed Jennie Wade located on the far right-side of the door just below center.

Visitors of the Jennie Wade house claim to see ghostly orbs in photos and they smell baking bread while in the house.  They also see chains (which block off rooms, so tourists can't touch the period furniture) move all on their own.  Others have also claimed to feel or see the ghostly images of some of the orphanage children that hid in this house to escape the mean head mistress.

To see some of the Jennie Wade orbs visit here, here, here, and here for a video of the moving chains.

Stonewall also took me around to various other parts of Gettysburg.  He didn't have any specific ghost stories about these places, however they are full of ghostly activity that has been caught on camera by ghost hunters, both professional and amateur.

The Triangular Field is said to be on of the most haunted spots in Gettysburg.

Check out here, here, here, here, and here for a video for what these visitors think are ghosts of the Triangular Field.

The Wheatfield is also known to be very haunted.  During the Battle of Gettysburg so many soldiers were killed here that you could not walk across the field without stepping on bodies.

For some ghostly images in the Wheatfield go here and here.

Whether or not you believe in ghosts, there are some things that can not be explained.  Thousands of people encounter just those "things" while touring Gettysburg.  With the use of technology, it doesn't take much to turn a picture or a video into a ghostly image.  Do the photos in this post and the stories that are told on ghost tours really prove that there is a spirit world out there and sometimes those spirits get stuck in our world?  I don't know if these pictures and stories are real.  However, if those that took these photos and those that tell those stories are believers, then I'll take their word for it because it makes things a bit more exciting.

"A Hauntingly Magical Celebration" Coming Soon!

I have a confession to make.

It's midnight and I'm freaking myself out.

Sad, I know. But true.

I am particpating in A Fanciful Twist's "Hauntingly Magical Celebration." I was preparing my "party" of ghosts this evening...all alone...by myself...at night...at midnight...

And I've managed to give myself the heeby-geebies. Every noise is coming to get me. Every dark corner holds a spook. I just hope I survive the night in my suddenly haunted house.

So check back tomorrow...well, today now...noonish. I'll finish my ghost stories when its daylight and all the ghosts have gone into hiding and are no longer trying to scare me out of house and home.

In the meantime, if you haven't yet, don't forget to enter my Giveaway and you could win fabulous postcards made by Vanessa at A Fanciful Twist! I'll draw the winner at the end of my Celebration post.

My Tea Cup Collection

So I'm just curious as to what everyone out there collects. I'm fascinated by what people choose to collect because people collect the most random stuff. Baseball cards, porcelain dolls, snow globes, shot glasses, pink glassware, melmac dishes, autographs...the list is literally endless because one man's trash is another man's treasure. For instance, at an auction I got a blue glass insulator cap with a mirror I won and I was like, "What's this crap?" Turns out people collect those things. For whatever strange reason.

That's my point exactly, though. Why do people collect the things they collect? Why do some people collect hundred or thousand dollar items and others collect items that wouldn't even sell in a quarter machine? Why are some people willing to travel half way around the world for an item they collect?  What is it that draws us to the items we choose to collect?

I collect tea cups. For absolutely no reason other than to collect them. Several years ago I said to my mom, "I want to collect something, but I don't know what." We were in an antique store and she saw a tea cup and said, "How about tea cups?" So I bought my first tea cup then and there. I've been collecting them ever since.

My first tea cup.

I know absolutely nothing about tea cups. I don't know what is considered valuable and what is considered junk. I don't know what is the MUST have tea cup pattern. I just buy tea cups that I think are pretty.

Here's the thing though. When I started collecting tea cups there was no emotional connection or purpose.  Now, though, it's almost a compulsion to buy a tea cup that catches my fancy. I even purposefully look for tea cups when I'm at auctions or antique stores. I even turned myself into a tea fan just so there's more rhyme and reason behind my collection.

The tea cup on the far left is one of my favorites.  It's not the prettiest, but on the bottom it says, "Made In Occupied Japan" and I think that's super cool.  I have plenty of items that are "Made in Japan," but this is the first item I've ever seen that was "Made in Occupied Japan."

The one in the back is called part of a set called, "The Friendly Village."  My grandma had the whole dinnerware set at one point.  I can remember eating whipped cream (not ice cream, just whipped cream from a can) out of the little dishes that went with the set.

The little pink and gold cup on the right is the first one that Stonewall bought me.  This one is not a tea cup which I didn't learn until after the fact.  It is a hot chocolate cup.  Apparently, at some point in history it was normal to sit down and have a daily cup of hot chocolate.  You can tell the difference between a tea cup and a hot chocolate cup because the hot chocolate cup is much smaller, about half the size of a tea cup.

The tea cup that is front left was a gift from Danielle (SIL) for our wedding.  She painted it at one of those places where you can pick a piece of pottery and then paint it.  It has our wedding date on one side, our last name on the other side, and the saucer says, "Today I marry my best friend."

The tea cup front right is another hot chocolate cup.  I actually find hot chocolate cups much more interesting than tea cups.  If I didn't think I would end up gaining 20 pounds in a month, I would have a daily cup of hot chocolate rather than a daily cup of tea.

The back right tea cup was a birthday gift from Meg (my sister).  This one is also one of my favorites.  You can see how the handle is on the rim of the cup rather than on the side.  I wish I knew more about this one because it doesn't really feel like a tea cup to me, but what else could it be?

This is a tea set that Stonewall brought back for me from his first deployment to Iraq.  It was handmade and handpainted in Turkey.

And that's my random collection of tea cups.  Despite the fact that there was no reason for me to begin collecting tea cups, I've grown quite fond of them.  They're all so different and pretty in their own way.  I think what I love the most about them is that at some point in history each one of them was used by Someone.  I could have the same tea cup that one of our First Lady's used to serve a tea or maybe the real life version of Scarlett O'Hara drank her hot chocolate from my cup.  Who knows?  Just the potential history of a tea (hot chocolate) cup makes me want to buy it.

What do you collect and why?

Jewelry Making & Painting

For my sister's birthday I decided to try my hand at jewelry making. The necklaces still haven't fallen apart, so I made two more necklaces.

This one was for Danielle (SIL). I call it, "Don't Quit Your Day Job."

About a year ago Dani tried to make herself a necklace. She wore it to work and when it broke halfway through the day one of her colleagues, who makes jewelry professionally, fixed it for her. When the colleague asked Dani who made the necklace she said, "My sister-in-law," because she was too embarrassed to admit she made it. The colleague said, "Tell her not to quit her day job."

Great. Thanks for the tip. I now take Lil Mootz to the daycare where Dani worked at the time and I'm still trying to figure out which teacher thinks I'm a failed jewelry maker.

My second necklace, "Love BEE-ing Cheesy" was inspired by the winner of Lil Mootz's Top Commenter of the Month Contest in Septemeber: Alicia at it ain't easy being cheesy.

Alicia loves herself an awesome 'stache (and really, who doesn't), so when I saw this pink one at Little Angels Jewelry on Etsy the creative juices started flowing. And I know the pic isn't the greatest, but the bottom charm is a chunk of cheese. (So go enter my current giveaway because I might just throw in a little extra som'in som'in if you win!)

I'm working on a necklace for my mom right now. It's a bit more complicated than the others, so it's taking me awhile.

Anyway...

All that jewelry making kind of tired me out, so when it came to finishing up the revamping of my downstairs that I started, I went to the professionals. Instead of boring white walls my life is finally full of color!

This is the Before kitchen. (I remembered to take "Before" pics this time!) I know its not a great shot of the walls, but you can see on the sides that they are beige and white.

And this is the After kitchen. The top walls look kind of pink in the photo, but they're more like a blushy beige and the bottom walls are a sage green.

Here we have the Before living room with it's boring white walls and blue paint tape outline.

The After living room in all it's Dockside Blue glory. We also mounted the TV above the fireplace.

And last, but not least the Before playroom. I LOVE this color and I had a hard time deciding if I wanted to change it. It just seems so kiddy and playroomy to me.

So I didn't really make much of a change. I know it's hard to tell, but the After is a lighter color. Same  base color, just a lighter version of it to help brighten up the room a bit.

After painting most of the rooms in our house ourselves, it sure was nice to have the pros take over. And they did a fabulous job! They also told us how to fix the baseboards and ceiling molding in our other rooms.

Now I just have about a hundred picture frames to hang on our newly painted walls.

Sunday Mornings & Blazing Angels

I woke up this morning to this happy little face:

If that's not a fantastic way to start my Sunday, I don't know what is.

After cuddling in bed for a bit with our Lil' Mootz, Stonewall and I had a relaxing hour munching on cinnamon rolls, drinking our coffee and watching "Property Ladder." Stonewall loves the idea of flipping a house someday, so that's one of the few shows he'll watch with me. Sunday mornings like this are by far my favorite hours of the week.

Yesterday was my father-in-law's birthday. We were supposed to play nine holes, but it was 60 degrees outside and we're most definitely not serious enough golfers to play in that kind of weather. Instead we hung out at our house and I made dinner. We also played Monopoly on the Wii. And guess who kicked butt? That's right, people. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200. Just hand me your money and move along.

For dinner I pulled a few recipes out of The Military Wives' Cookbook. I made fried catfish, hush puppies, cole slaw, and sweet tea, which are from the Memorial Day Catfish Fry menu. The recipe did NOT mention that it takes about 15-20 minutes per catfish fillet and I could only do two at a time, so it took me FOREVER to make the fish. However, once we finally got to the eating part of the evening everything was very tasty.

And my FIL and Stonewall wish they were from the South, so that's why I tried my hand at the southern-type meal. They even fought for the South, that's how much they wish they were from there.

(No, really. That's my FIL. On the movie poster and DVD cover of "Gods and Generals". Stonewall isn't in this picture, but in the movie you can see him during the battle of Chancellorville as the soldiers charge into battle. Interestingly enough, Stonewall got to meet Stephen Lang who played Stonewall Jackson (who, in case you Civil War-challenged folks haven't figured it out yet, the hubs is "named" after).)

Anyway...

Other than that and getting new fall and winter jackets (Thanks, Mom!) and organizing our DVDs this weekend has been pretty chill and non-eventful.

Oh, well, except my husband now fancies himself a pilot. It all kinda started back in December 2007 when I got Stonewall a flight on a T-6 and he loved it.

When S. (the (1/2) brother) was here the other weekend for Stonewall's picnic they discovered they both have an interest in flying.  So, of course, S. just had to tell Stonewall about a Wii game called "Blazing Angels."  And Stonewall just had to get this game when we were at Target on Friday.  And for the past 48 hours Stonewall just had to play this WWII fighter plane game every chance he got.

Thanks, S. Just an fyi though - NOT the way to get invited Thanksgiving dinner.

I hope everyone enjoys the last few hours of their Sunday!

PS. And just for the record - My hubs was in "Gods and Generals" with Stephen Lang, who was in "The Men Who Stare At Goats" with Glenn Morshower, who was in "The River Wild" with Kevin Bacon.

Coming VERY Soon: A New Blog Design & Name

After signing off yesterday I remember one of things I wanted to tell everyone. And I can't believe I forgot because the mere thought of it makes me want to dance a little.

Remember I mentioned that I was going to be getting a new blog layout from April Shower Blog Designs?

Well, any day now you will click onto my site and see that wonderful new design! April sent me a little preview of the design the other day and it is gorgeous! You-all are going to be super jealous :)

The other teeny-tiny major change you'll notice when you click on over here is my new blog name. I've decided that the new blog look needs a new blog name. "More Than An (Army) Wife" is being retired and being replaced with:

"A Yummy Mummy On A Pink Park Bench"

I am so stoked about this change! For now my domain won't be changing. I'm still hanging on to www.morethananarmywife.com. I haven't decided yet if I'll be sticking with (army)Wife. I'm not quite ready to part with my Army Wife blog persona. I've tried coming up with a new moniker that incorporates both the "Mommy" and the "Army Wife", but so far nothing has struck my fancy.

Any suggestions?

Catching Up & Other Kinda Boring Stuff

I think we need to do a little catching up. I've not been up on the posts this week. I keep thinking of all these things I want to tell you-all, but every time I sit down to the computer I decide I forget what it was I wanted to tell you.

All in all things are going well in the (army)Wife household. Stonewall's been home now for (almost) three weeks and we're pretty much settled back into a normal routine. Stonewall has been super helpful around the house with cleaning and taking care of Lil' Mootz. I am pleasantly surprised because before he deployed Stonewall pretty much left the cleaning to me. Every night though he helps me clean up after dinner and pick up the living room. I've even come home from work and he's emptied the dishwasher from the night before(!!!).

Stonewall and Lil' Mootz are getting along superbly. Stonewall, it turns out, is a natural at this whole dad thing. He's usually out of bed before me, so he can be the one to wake up Lil' Mootz and get him ready for the day. Stonewall loves hanging out with Lil' Mootz in his playroom. After I leave for work in the morning they'll play in the playroom after breakfast until Lil' Mootz wears himself out and crawls over to Daddy and curls up with him for his mid-morning nap. At night, Stonewall is reading "Treasure Island" to Lil' Mootz and I have to practically drag him out of the the room or else he'll just stand by the crib talking.

There have been a few hiccups, but nothing major. There was a fight last Saturday, but we cleared things up pretty quickly and with minimal yelling which was pretty impressive for us given our fighting history. We've also had a few, "But this is how we do it now," moments. However, I think Stonewall and I are both adjusting very well to each other. We are creating a new routine that suits us both and allows us both moments of relaxation.

A few other things that I've wanted to mention...

Remember the budget? So far, so good. The first week wasn't the easiest because we had a major car repair that took away a huge chunk of our budget, but we managed to stay within budget for the rest of the week. This week we'll be facing a similar situation because my rings are finally fixed and that cost a pretty penny. Well, we got through last week on a (very) limited budget, so I'm sure we'll be able to do it again this week.

The other night we watching "Knowing" with Nicholas Cage. If you haven't seen this movie yet I highly recommend that you DON'T. I've already wasted two hours of my life by watching the movie, so I don't want to waste even more time by writing about it. I thought it was about prophecy and telling the future. No, it's about creepy zombie aliens who want to repopulate the Earth when armageddon hits. Just skip it.

There's like a dozen other things I wanted to mention, but I've either forgotten what they are or else they include pictures which I don't have on this computer. I'll get back to you though, I promise.

In the meantime, don't forget to enter the giveaway! So far there are only like 4 entries. Do I need to add another prize to entice you? Just go enter!

Things That Make You Go Hmmm: I'll Have the Number 5 With a Side of Goldfish

Have you ever been super pissed off at an ex? Okay, stupid question. Of course you have, that's why they're an Ex. Unless you happened to marry your preschool sweetheart you've been in that place that compels you to throw out an Ex's favorite sweatshirt, scratch up his CD collection he left at your apartment, and return his toothbrush after you've cleaned your toilet with it. (Not that I've ever done these things. I'm merely stating the hypotheticals.)

Apparently, they do things a little bit different out in Pasadena, TX. Instead of throwing away her ex's favorite t-shirt or even keying his car this woman ate his goldfish.

Yes, that's right. Ate. His goldfish.

Some of you may be saying, "Ewwww!" at this moment while you attempt to hold down your breakfast. However, in her defense, she didn't eat them raw, she fried them up first.

I try not to be a vengeful person,(Not in reality, anyway. In my dreams, well, that's a different story.) so I'm not up on the most current ways to make a person regret their actions. However, I'm pretty sure that frying up goldfishes slimy little bodies, and then having to chew and swallow their crunchy tail fins would do more harm to me than the person I was trying to get even with.

Either way, cue the Carrie Underwood...

And he don't know...

That I stole his fish from their bowl to make myself a tasty little meal;
carved my name into their golden fins.
I spiced 'em up and fried them to a crisp,
Ate them all in two slow bites.

Maybe next time he'll think before he breaks up with me.

I might've saved a little trouble for the next fish,
Cause the next time that he eats,

Oh, you know it won't be seafood.

(Ok, lame! But it took me a whole twenty minutes to come up with this little jingle, so humor me and tell me I'm super creative.)

"A Hauntingly Magical Celebration" & Giveway!

Guess what all my favorite witches and goblins?! It's almost Halloween!

Perhaps I'm a bit early with my celebration, but it's never too early to start preparing for the day when the barrier between our world and the spirit world is at it's thinnest.

Oh, who am I kidding? Like I give a crap about the reasoning behind the holiday. I just love dressing up and eating candy!

Vanessa at A Fanciful Twist is pulling out all the stops and throwing a magnificently spooky blog party in honor of All Hallows Eve on October 17. (Remember our 1/2 Mad Tea Party that she hosted?)

Stop by her blog for all the party rules and to sign up to participate. And don't forget to stop by my blog on the 17th to celebrate the scariest of holidays with the (army)Wife family!

And what's a party without an awesome party favor?! One lucky party guest will win these fabulous postcards made by Vanessa.

For your chance to win, stop by Vanessa's Fanciful Twist Etsy shop and then come back here and let me know how fabulous you think her items are.  I will draw a winner at my Halloween party on October 17. (You have to leave a comment here, NOT on the Oct. 17 post to win.)

Happy haunting!
